Lise B Moorecroft

Lise is the daughter of Walter, and the Grand daughter of William Moorcroft. Having been brought up in ‘The Potteries’, near Stoke on Trent, she went on to gain an Honours degree in Ceramics at the Central School of Art and Design , 1984-1987.

Lise has become a leading artist of excellence in the field of lustreware. This technique originated in the ninth century and was at its most successful during the thirteenth century, in Persia. William de Morgan was the first to bring this new dimension of ceramic  glaze to England, around 1860, perfecting the art to a supreme standard. William Moorcroft continued to develop this art, his work spanning the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements at the turn of the Century. Lise is the third generation of this truly great artistic family to continue producing lustreware.

The lustre is produced from metal oxides sprayed or painted onto the earthenware vessels before firing . Lise experiments widely using varied metals, bronze, copper, gold , silver and many more. Her pots on average have eight firings, with different glazes built up over each other.

The pots are thrown for Lise by a master potter, the designs, decorating, tube lining and lustre glazes are executed by Lise herself. Her mastery of the complex lustre glazes, her flair for design and the beautiful colours she produces have made her work highly collectable.
